Why Support Mental Health

The COVID-19 Pandemic has unsurprisingly further contributed to the already growing issues surrounding mental health. They estimate that 1:4 adults in the UK will experience mental health issues during their life*; we want to change this statistic!

Developing a supportive and inclusive culture that provides psychological safety for your workforce is integral to the reduction of the 1:4 statistic. Our fully accredited MHFA England courses provide you with the skills and knowledge to create and nurture this culture.

This is a considerable challenge, but the rewards of success are more significant.

Inaction towards addressing these enormous challenges is costly, with an estimated £32 – £42bn spent each year*.

Reading only the statistics can be depressing. However, we genuinely believe that these numbers can change by adopting a preventive positive mental health philosophy.

The key factors that influence the costs to employers are:

  • Presenteeism cost £16.8bn – £26.4bn*
  • Turnover cost £7.9bn*
  • Absence cost £7.9bn*

Be Prepared

Our sessions will equip your team with the relevant solutions, strategies, and tools to allow them to overcome a multitude of obstacles. Utilising their training, a Mental Health First Aider can help colleagues who could experience a wellbeing issue to access the support they require returning to health.

This solution gives participants an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing. It develops practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental illness and equips the participants with the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.

This solution will help to:

  • Increase understanding of mental health
  • Identify the common triggers of mental ill-health and signs that someone may need support
  • Develop non-judgemental listening skills and instil confidence to reassure and support people who may experience mental ill-health
  • Provide initial help to those in need of intervention
  • Equip the participants with the knowledge on how to guide colleagues towards professional help
  • Increase individual awareness of wellbeing
  • Instil the knowledge on how to implement reasonable mental health adjustments when an individual returns to work
  • Develop the skills to create a positive mental health culture in the workplace
